MILK THISTLE
The natural liver protector
Herbal liver aid for farm animals
Liver stress in livestock is widespread in animal husbandry. Milk thistle is known as a herbal solution that supports liver function. Its active ingredient silymarin can support liver function and promote regeneration. Milk thistle combines tradition with modern animal nutrition.
Protect, regenerate, maintain – we are focusing on liver health.

The liver: A crucial organ
The liver is the key organ in the organism’s metabolism, and also part of the digestive tract. Metabolism takes place primarily in the liver parenchyma cells, known as hepatocytes, which account for approx. 60%-70% of liver cell tissue. The most important tasks of hepatocytes include the metabolism of nutrients, the detoxification of harmful substances, the synthesis of certain proteins, the storage of trace elements and vitamins and the formation of bile.
The functional effects of milk thistle are due to the active ingredient silymarin.
Silymarin is a complex of various flavonolignans and is primarily known for its protective and supportive effects on the liver:

-
Antioxidant: It reduces free radicals and protects the liver cells from oxidative stress
-
Cell membrane stabilisation: It impedes the penetration of toxic substances into the liver cells
-
Regenerative: It promotes the regeneration of liver cells (the liver can regenerate itself)
-
Liver soothing: It inhibits messenger substances that can negatively influence the normal functions of the liver, thus reducing damage to the liver cells
Milk thistle – from myth to medicine
Ancient Greek and Roman physicians and herbalists were the first to use milk thistle for health purposes. The plant is originally native to the Mediterranean region and has naturalised in North and South America and Australia. Milk thistle thrives in many different soil and climatic conditions, which explains its presence throughout Central Europe as well.
Its German name, “Mariendistel”, comes from a Christian legend: the white spots on the leaves of the plant are said to come from the milk of the Virgin Mary. When she was fleeing with the baby Jesus, a few drops of her milk dripped onto the leaves of the thistle. Hence the English name “milk thistle” (Latin: Silybum marianum), with its characteristic white leaf veins. Today, milk thistle is one of the most extensively researched plants that supports the liver in humans.

EVO-AMARIS® is a supplementary feed based on silymarin, the proven active ingredient in milk thistle that protects the liver. Thanks to selected plant extracts and a particularly gentle manufacturing process, the functional properties are enhanced in a targeted manner to ensure optimum support of liver health and greater efficiency in feeding.
